The NMR LipoProfile® test uses nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to directly measure the number of LDL particles and sizes, and HDL particles. The test also provides a standard cholesterol test (Low-density lipoprotein, High-density lipoprotein, Triglycerides and Total Cholesterol) and a calculation of one’s risk of type 2 diabetes by assessing abnormalities in lipoprotein markers that are closely associated with insulin resistance (a precursor to type 2 diabetes).
